Chinese New Year...in Japan

Print

January 2004

Not too bad considering no Chinese people have lived in Nagasaki Chinatown since the war. They really go all out, most of the downtown core, and most of the temples are covered in a sea of lanterns for the duration of the festival. It was nice to see something lively after visiting the A-bomb museum (to come).

Eisa Tournament

Print

August 2003

Eisa is a traditional dance/performance in Okinawa. Every year they hold a tournament in the centre of Naha. The highlight of this event was the 6 year old kid group dancing to the jingle for "Orion Beer", the local brew.
