Fruit of the Gods

Print

Where: Not really sure, but definitely northern Queensland, as well as many other countries.

My god. At first you hear the stories, and you think "Nah, that can't be true, you're full of it mate." Then you start to get closer and you realized that the stories might actually be not that far off the truth, there is a glimmer of hope in your heart as you walk into the store and see them there on the shelf, and you know that someone is smiling down upon you, and that force has guided you here. You know that you have been chosen to receive this bounty. You hold it and wonder at the mysteries of life and nature. You analyze it with the utmost scrutiny to make sure that nothing is wrong, everything is perfect. What is it?

Black Sapote, the Chocolate Pudding fruit. The chocolate pudding fruit. Hallelujah!  (Angels singing)

Too good to be true? Well let me tell you I have had it, and it tastes just like chocolate pudding. Jell-o chocolate pudding, or more accurately a rip off of Jell-o chocolate pudding. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Jell-o is the king of pudding or anything, but maybe when you were young, you parent's decided to buy the knock-off brand, and it was good, but it tasted just a little off, maybe a little fruity? Do you remember that? That is exactly what this fruit tastes like. The texture is pretty close as well. The fruit is a little more firm, but perhaps it was because we couldn't wait for it to ripen all the way.

Don't believe me? Look at the pictures below!

Mossman Gorge

Print

Location: Outside of Mossman, Queensland.

August 2005

The gorge is near the edge of the whole wet tropics area, which is currently being preserved by UNESCO. It is a nice walk through the jungle, too bad I didn't take enough photos to really show what it was like! I went in the winter, and so the weather was perfect. Supposedly in the summer the heat and humidity can be unbearable at times!
