Suwon

Print

Suwon is known for its folk village, and its fortress. Here is the fortress, I haven't been to the folk village yet.

Surisan

All of the hiking in Korea is pretty decent if you are a fat lazy bastard like myself. Surisan, like other mountains, is a source of spring water, which Koreans come in droves to bottle and use as drinking water at home. For some reason I can't bring myself to drink it, maybe it is because of the high amount of acid rain, and the fact that the tap water is still undrinkable (though others claim otherwise...)

Daegu

Daegu a perfect location for day trips to the surrounding sights, but there is not much to see in the city itself that is much different from other cities in Korea. I spent a few days here, and the shots here come from Woobang land an amusement park near one of the hills that overlooks the city. I seem to remember going to an interesting medicinal ...workshop? but I don't seem to have any pictures of that...

It does seem like a nice place to live though...

Ganghwado

Even though this island is a part of Incheon city, it is mostly rural. It is known for Dolmen, Stonehenge like markers found here and a few other places in Korea. There are a few other sights as well, such as Jeondeungsa temple where the Tripitaka Koreana, woodblocks of Buddhist scriptures, were carved, and Gwangseongbo a fortress built in 1658.

Jeonju

Print

I spent a day here on business, and spent most of my time in the towns one major sight, the Hanok Village, a collection of classic Korean style houses and stores. This differs from the rural Hahoe Village in that it was more of an urban area.

This area is known for good food, the main dish being Bibimbap, sliced vegetables, some meat or fish and an egg. It can be served hot (in a stone dish) or cold. I went to Hangukgwan, one of the famous restaurants in the city. The type I had was Yukke Bibimbap, which has some marinated raw beef on it.
